Cannabis Glossary
# - A
2-AG
A key endocannabinoid that helps regulate appetite, immune function, and pain response.
Adaptogens
Natural herbs and mushrooms (like Lion’s Mane or Reishi) that help the body adapt to stress, often paired with cannabinoids for balanced wellness.
Anandamide
Often called the ‘bliss molecule,’ this endocannabinoid influences mood, memory and motivation.
B
Bioavailability
The percentage of a cannabinoid that enters the bloodstream after consumption. Different delivery methods affect bioavailability.
Broad-Spectrum CBD
Contains multiple cannabinoids and terpenes but no THC. A good choice for people who want full benefits without THC exposure.
C
CBC (Cannabichromene)
A non-intoxicating cannabinoid studied for its potential role in pain relief and brain health.
CBG (Cannabigerol)
Known as the ‘mother cannabinoid,’ it is a precursor to other cannabinoids and studied for anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects.
CBN (Cannabinol)
A mildly psychoactive cannabinoid formed when THC ages, often associated with sleep support.
CBD (Cannabidiol)
A non-intoxicating cannabinoid known for supporting stress relief, pain management, sleep, and recovery. CBD does not cause a ‘high.’
Cannabis Sativa vs. Cannabis Indica
Plant classifications often linked to uplifting (Sativa) or relaxing (Indica) effects, though modern science shows cannabinoids and terpenes drive effects more than strain type.
Cannabinoids
Natural compounds found in the cannabis plant, including CBD, THC, CBG, and more. Cannabinoids interact with the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) to regulate mood, sleep, pain and overall balance.
COA (Certificate of Analysis)
Third-party lab reports verifying potency, cannabinoid content, and safety of cannabis products. Essential for compliance and consumer trust.
Compliance
Following all state and federal rules for hemp and cannabis, including THC limits, testing and labeling standards.
D
Decarboxylation
The process of heating cannabis to activate cannabinoids like THC and CBD from their raw forms (THCA, CBDA).
Delta-8 THC
A hemp-derived cannabinoid with mild psychoactive effects, often used for relaxation and stress relief. Legal status varies by state.
Delta-10 THC
Another hemp-derived cannabinoid with lighter psychoactive effects, often associated with focus and creativity.
E
Edibles
Food and drink infused with cannabinoids. Onset takes 30–90 minutes, but effects can last longer compared to inhalation.
Endocannabinoid System (ECS)
A biological system that helps maintain balance (homeostasis) by regulating stress, sleep, pain response, and immunity. The ECS interacts with cannabinoids like CBD and THC.
Endogenous Cannabinoids (Endocannabinoids)
Naturally occurring cannabinoids produced by the body, such as anandamide and 2-AG, which help regulate balance and wellness.
Entourage Effect
The enhanced therapeutic benefit when cannabinoids, terpenes and other compounds work together.
F
Flavonoids
Plant compounds in cannabis that contribute to color, aroma, and potential health benefits such as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.
Full-Spectrum CBD
CBD products that contain all cannabinoids, terpenes, and trace THC (<0.3%). Known for the ‘entourage effect.’
Functional Mushrooms
Mushrooms such as Lion’s Mane and Cordyceps that support brain health, immunity, and stress resilience.
H
Hemp
A variety of cannabis legally defined as containing less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC. Used to create CBD, food, textiles, and wellness products.
Homeostasis
The body’s natural state of balance. The ECS, cannabinoids, and adaptogens all play a role in helping the body achieve homeostasis.
I
Isolate CBD
Pure CBD with no other cannabinoids or terpenes. Often used in precise formulations for stress or recovery.
M
Microdosing
Taking small doses of THC or cannabinoids to achieve therapeutic benefits without intoxication. Common for stress and focus.
Minor Cannabinoids
Cannabinoids present in smaller amounts like CBN, CBC and CBG, each offering unique therapeutic potential.
N
Nano CBD
CBD that’s nano-emulsified into smaller particles for faster absorption and higher bioavailability in drinks and edibles.
T
Terpenes
Aromatic compounds that give cannabis its smell and flavor while offering therapeutic effects. Examples include myrcene, limonene, and linalool.
THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol)
The main psychoactive compound in cannabis. Delta-9 THC in hemp-derived compliant amounts (<0.3%) can provide relaxation, mood support, and pain relief.
Tincture
A liquid cannabis extract, typically oil-based, taken under the tongue for quick absorption.
Topicals
Lotions, balms, or creams infused with cannabinoids for targeted pain or inflammation relief.
Transdermals
Patches infused with cannabinoids designed to deliver effects through the skin into the bloodstream.
